In their words
Our project is about building and improving a rescue line robot for the RoboCupJunior competition. At first, we used LEGO SPIKE Prime for the national competition, but later we changed to ESP32 and M5Stack because we wanted more control and better performance. Our goal was to make a robot that can follow a black line, detect green markers, stop at red lines, avoid obstacles, handle gaps in the line, and later complete tasks in the evacuation zone.
The robot uses an ESP32 controller, IR sensors, RGB colour sensors, a ToF distance sensor, N20 motors, servos, and a 3D-printed chassis. For the software, we used line-position calculations and PID control to help the robot move more smoothly and stay on the line. We also made special solutions for sharp corners, gaps, obstacles, and colour detection.
During the project, we faced many problems, such as limited time, delayed parts, strict size rules, and last-minute changes in the competition rules. By testing the robot many times, we found problems and improved both the design and the code. Overall, this project helped us learn more about robotics, programming, electronics, teamwork, and problem-solving.
