In their words
BioBrause is a RoboCupJunior Rescue Line robot designed to autonomously navigate complex competition environments, complete the rescue mission, and reliably operate under changing conditions. The robot follows the line, overcomes ramps, gaps, intersections, obstacles, and speed bumps, and is capable of locating, classifying, collecting, and evacuating victims in the rescue zone.
The robot combines custom-designed mechanical components, a Raspberry Pi based control system, multiple cameras, distance sensors, and a dedicated microcontroller for low-level hardware control. A modular software architecture separates high-level decision making from hardware interaction, making the system easier to test, maintain, and extend.
What sets BioBrause apart is its error-aware design philosophy. Instead of assuming that sensors and movements are always correct, the software continuously evaluates possible uncertainties and failures. Navigation, victim detection, and rescue strategies are designed around the expectation that measurements can be inaccurate and that unexpected situations will occur. This allows the robot to detect problems, recover from mistakes, and continue operating without human intervention.
Extensive testing and validation were used throughout development to improve reliability and robustness. By combining modular hardware, structured software, and advanced error handling, BioBrause achieves stable autonomous performance even in challenging and unpredictable competition scenarios.
